Potatoes au Gratin

Step 1Preheat oven to 400°F.
Step 2Smear the butter all over the bottom of a 2-quart baking dish.
Step 3Slice potatoes, then cut the slices into fourths.
Step 4In a medium bowl, whisk together cream, milk, flour, garlic, salt, and plenty of pepper.
Step 5Place a third of the potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish. Pour a third of the cream mixture over the potatoes. Repeat this 2 more times, ending with the cream mixture. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden brown and really bubbling. Add the cheese to the top of the potatoes and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly, 3 to 5 minutes more.
Step 6Allow to stand for a few minutes before serving by the spoonful. Delicious!
