Ingredients
Instructions
Set the oven to 375°F and position a rack in the center.
Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil, salt generously, and cook the ziti until just tender according to package directions, then drain well.
Place a large pot over medium-high heat and cook the sausage with the onion and garlic, breaking the meat apart, until browned and the onions are soft, then discard excess grease.
Stir in the marinara, tomato sauce, salt, Italian seasoning, and cream until smooth, then fold in the cooked pasta and 1½ cups of the shredded mozzarella.
Spoon the pasta mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Layer the fresh mozzarella slices and remaining shredded mozzarella on top, cover with foil, and bake for 20 minutes until heated through.
Remove the foil, sprinkle with Parmesan, and return to the oven uncovered for about 5 minutes until bubbly and melted.
Finish with red chili flakes and fresh basil before serving.
