This homemade pita bread recipe will keep you from ever buying store-bought pita again. The recipe is so easy, and these soft, puffed-up flatbreads can be used in so many ways. Here’s how to make pita bread at home.

Ingredients
Instructions
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Stir in the salt and enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, six to eight minutes. Do not let the dough rise.
Divide the dough into six pieces. Working with one piece at a time, knead the dough for one minute. Then, roll each piece into a 5-inch circle. Cover the dough, and let the circles rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes. Preheat the oven to 500°. Editor's Tip: Keep the dough pieces covered with a clean kitchen towel while you work. The dough can dry out when it's exposed to air, which will make it harder to work with.
Place the dough circles on greased baking sheets. Bake until puffed and lightly browned, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the pita bread to a wire rack to cool.
