Mix ¾ cup warm water (~110°F), 1 tsp sugar, and 1 tsp active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
Whisk 2 cups all-purpose flour and ½ tsp salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture, ¼ cup plain yogurt, and 2 tbsp olive oil. Stir until shaggy dough forms.
Knead by hand for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Shape into a ball, place in oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
Punch down dough, divide into 6 balls, and roll into ¼" thick ovals.
Heat skillet until smoking. Cook naan 2–3 minutes per side until charred and puffed.
Brush with 2 tbsp melted butter or ghee and optional 1 garlic clove, minced or 2 tbsp chopped cilantro.
