Your spicy orzo soup recipe is ready to serve.
Use homemade or high-quality broth – whether it’s chicken, vegetable, or beef broth, make sure it’s of the best quality. Of course, you can make a fresh one at home rather than opting for commercial options. However, if you’re going to buy your broth, ensure it’s of high quality, with the right flavor, and low in sodium.
Add some proteins – It’s also important to ensure your soup is balanced and nutritious. As orzo is high in carbs, you can add some protein such as beef, shrimp, or chicken. Protein helps make you feel full and also supports muscle maintenance, so it’s good for weight management (5).
Add vegetables – vegetables offer valuable nutrients such as vitamins, dietary fiber, and minerals that you may not find so easily in other foods. Some of the vegetables you can add to your soup include carrots, onions, spinach, kale, garlic, or any other leafy greens. Include a variety of fresh and/or frozen vegetables to give your soup a unique flavor and taste.
Include some herbs and spices – use herbs and spices such as rosemary, thyme, sage, bay leaves, or parsley to spice up your soup with the flavor of your choice.
Cook separately – when it comes to cooking orzo soup, cook the orzo separately then add it to your soup when you’re about to serve it. Doing this will help prevent mushiness.
Simmer – use low to medium heat while cooking. This will keep your soup cooking gently instead of boiling it. Simmering yields a better texture.
Sauté your aromatics – this will build a rich flavor that will form the foundation of your soups. You should sauté some of your ingredients such as onions or garlic among other aromatics with a little oil to get the best flavor for your soup.
Time your ingredients – some ingredients such as herbs and leafy greens are delicate and you may need to add them at the end if you want to retain their rich flavors and texture.
Garnish – you can garnish your soup with grated cheese, croutons, lemon zest, or fresh herbs before serving.
Serve hot – enjoy the comforting flavors while the soup is still hot. You can serve it with fresh salad, crusty bread, or any side dish of your choice.
