Preparation
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Set a pot of water on the stove to boil for the pasta.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and chopped onions. Sprinkle ground black pepper on top. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent.
Add minced garlic in the last minute of cooking. Drain any excess grease, if needed.
When the water is boiling, add the macaroni. Cook it for just a few minutes until it is almost done, then drain it and set aside. It will continue cooking in the oven.
Combining Ingredients
In the skillet with the beef and onions, stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, sugar, and the herbs.
Add the cheddar cheese and mix until it melts. Then, stir in the cooked macaroni until well combined.
Baking
Pour the mixture into a 2-quart casserole dish that has been sprayed with oil.
Top with mozzarella cheese and bake for 30 minutes.
Allow it to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
