Hot Toddy: the Proper Winter Warmer Drink

Boil Water: Bring 6–8 fl oz of filtered water to a rolling boil. Once boiled, remove from the heat and allow it to sit for 30 seconds. Water that is too hot can scald the honey.

Prep the Garnish (Optional): If using cloves, pierce the rind of the lemon wheel 4-5 times with the whole cloves and set aside.

Warm the Mug: Pour a small splash of the hot water into your serving mug, swirl it around, and immediately discard the water. This prevents the glass from shattering and keeps your drink warm longer.

Combine Base Ingredients: Into the pre-warmed mug, pour the measured runny honey and the freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Add the Spirit: Pour in the 1.5 fl oz (45 ml) of whisky or spirit of choice.

Add Hot Water: Pour the remaining hot (but not boiling) water over the honey, lemon, and whisky mixture.

Stir and Dissolve: Stir briskly with a spoon or a cinnamon stick until the honey is completely dissolved and the liquid is clear.

Garnish and Serve: Place the clove-studded lemon wheel on the rim or float it in the drink. Serve immediately while steaming hot.
