Ingredients
Instructions
Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently and let stand for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy and bubbly.
Add flour, salt, yogurt, and oil or ghee to the activated yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead vigorously for 5–7 minutes, pressing and folding, until the dough becomes smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and set in a warm, draft-free area. Let rise for approximately 1 hour until doubled in size.
Punch down the risen dough and divide into 8 equal portions. Roll each piece into an oval or teardrop shape, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
Place a cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until thoroughly hot.
Lay one naan in the hot skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes until bubbles appear across the surface. Flip and cook an additional 1–2 minutes until golden brown spots develop.
Remove naan from the skillet and immediately brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic. Serve warm.
Continue cooking and brushing remaining dough portions. Serve immediately or keep warm in a covered container.
