Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sugar and salt, cooking and stirring until the mixture reaches 285°F (140°C) on a candy thermometer, around 10-15 minutes.
Stir in vanilla extract, then pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over the toffee. Let it melt for a minute, then spread it evenly with a spatula.
Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate. Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate it for quicker setting.
